Getting Online -
Information Products
Products to
sell online generally fall into one of three types:
-
Information
-
Your
Products
-
Someone
Else's Products
Obviously,
this is a simplistic way of dividing products, but I like simple! I
define information as anything that can be read. Your products are
products that you made or purchased to resell. Someone else's
products are affiliate programs, mlms, and even drop shippers, if they do
all of the work, including the shopping cart. This includes the
malls and virtual stores that you can get already set up. This
lesson will focus on information products. Here are some examples
of information products:
-
Newsletters
or ezines
-
eBooks
-
Articles
-
General
information on website.
If you are
building a website, regardless of what you sell, you will want to have a
newsletter. You may have one that just notifies your customers when
there are new products or sales. You could also start with the
newsletter, then build a website that relates to it. For help on
starting your own newsletter, go to Village
of Tidbits and take their free course.
The second
type of information products is eBooks. If you've written anything,
or are considering writing anything that ends up being more than one page,
you might want to turn it into an eBook. Once it's an eBook, you can
either sell it or give it away as an incentive to get people to sign up
for your newsletter or to check out whatever opportunity you're trying to
sell. Here are a couple of eBook compilers:

and here are a couple of tools
that will convert documents to PDF:

I don't know if any of the PDF
converters will make useable hyperlinks. I tried one that didn't,
but otherwise, it made a perfectly good PDF document that Acrobat Reader
was able to read without any trouble.
Articles are similar to eBooks,
except they're smaller. The best way to use articles is to submit
them to various ezines. Establishing yourself as a guru in a
particular area will bring more traffic to your website or ezine or
whatever you wish to sell. Whenever you put out an article, you
include a biography at the bottom which can include your website, or
whatever url or email address you wish. One of the articles in the
newsletter today is about formatting an article. It's one of the
best ways to get your name known, so it's a good idea to learn how to
write them.
Besides submitting your
articles to specific newsletters, you can also submit them to article
banks. The following are a couple of article banks where you can
submit articles, or, if you're a publisher or webmaster, you can also pick up articles:

Bottom line, if there is
something that you are good at and are interested in, if you can write
about it, do it! There are many different ways to market what you
write or use it to market something else. If you aren't already a
writer, get started. The more you write, the better you'll get!
A great way to learn about
writing articles is to join several newsletters. Read the articles
in the newsletters and see how the writers do it. If you're planning
on putting out a newsletter and you like the writing style of a particular
author, don't hesitate to let them know or to ask them if you can use
their article in your newsletter. Believe me, authors love that!
