Welcome to the 'I Want Online Now!' newsletter.  I will try to avoid any hype, whatsoever.  If any of you notice me starting to sound like one of those so-called gurus out there, please let me know.  I would prefer you do it nicely, of course.

This newsletter contains ongoing lessons and articles about running an online business.  Please feel free to send in any suggestions you have, i.e., lessons you've learned the hard way since you've been online.  Maybe between us all, we can help others make the move to the internet without losing everything they own.

This is a weekly newsletter,  published on Mondays.  There will also be a classifieds only issue that comes out on Fridays, as soon as we have enough subscribers (at least 100).  In addition, we will be running solo ads whenever they come in.   Both the classified ads issue and the solo ads will have free ad contests.  One of the solo ads each week will contain an ad code.  The first person to submit the ad code and their ad to me will receive a free top sponsor ad.

Hi  Everyone!

Well, I decided to put some of my domain names up for sale.  I held onto them for quite some time, even though I really don't have time to build another site right now.  I have the first one on eBay now.  You can see the list of domain names I'm selling at http://www.exotic-island-travel.com.

Work wasn't as bad as I feared, although I ended up making a couple of cold calls that I hadn't expected.  I severely hate cold calling!  I'm still excited about doing real estate, though.

I got my act together and started writing an ebook that I've been thinking about for some time.  I need to start writing articles and submitting them to other newsletters and article banks, like I tell everyone else, but finding the time is another story.

Getting Online - Your Products

Last week we discussed information products.  The next category of products you may sell online are your own products.  If you're selling your own products, you have numerous options as to how you want to get started online.  You may build your own website, add a shopping cart and a newsletter and submit the website to the search engines.  You may use a company like PayPal or ClickBank to process orders, or you may get a merchant's account.  PayPal has really simplified the process and now has a shopping cart program that hooks PayPal to your website. 

If you already have a brick-and-mortar store, this is probably the way to go.  However, if you just want to buy and sell items, your best bet is probably to sell through eBay.  You can even build an eBay store.  There are several books out on how to make money through eBay.  

If you are planning on buying and selling large amounts of products, you may need warehousing and order processing and the whole nine yards.  If so, you are talking about quite a bit of expense.  Unless you are a programmer, you will certainly need to hire a programmer to put together your shopping cart and inventory programs, as well as hook into your accounting system.  This is not for the faint of heart, or the poor of pocket!

Dropshippers, while not as difficult as direct ownership, are somewhere in between affiliate programs and selling your own products.  You will be selling products as if they were your own.  They will go out with your logo on them, in most cases, and you'll have to program your website in the same manner as a direct owner would.  You will probably make less money, but you won't have to put out money to warehouse the products, nor to process orders.  Online wholesale companies are usually dropshippers or affiliate programs.  If they come with a website already set up for you, consider them affiliate programs.  If they don't, consider them dropshippers.  

There are several companies online who have prebuilt websites that you can use to market your own products or dropshipped products.  They come complete with a shopping cart and merchant account.  They'll even walk you through how to input your own products.  They aren't as expensive as you might think.  The main drawback to these websites is that they are hosted on that company's servers, and probably can't be moved.  If you decide you want to move your website, you'll probably have to build a completely new one, then migrate from the old one to the new one.  You might even lose your domain name!  Just make sure you read all of the fine print and really know what you're doing before you go for it.  The sales people are really good.  Don't let them pressure you into making a decision without knowing all the facts.  On the other hand, you'll have a professional looking site without having to program it, and you can start loading in your products within a day.
