Welcome to the 'I
Want Online Now!' newsletter.
I
will try to avoid any hype, whatsoever. If any of you notice me
starting to sound like one of those so-called gurus out there, please let me
know. I would prefer you do it nicely, of course.
This newsletter contains ongoing
lessons and articles about running an online business.
Please feel free to send in any suggestions you have, i.e., lessons you've
learned the hard way since you've been online. Maybe between us all,
we can help others make the move to the internet without losing everything
they own.
This is a weekly newsletter, published on Mondays. There will also be
a classifieds only issue that comes out on Fridays, as soon as we have
enough subscribers (at least 100). In addition, we
will be running solo ads whenever they come in. Both the
classified ads issue and the solo ads will have free ad contests. One
of the solo ads each week will contain an ad code. The first person to
submit the ad code and their ad to me will receive a free top sponsor
ad.

| Welcome everyone!
I'm on a roll! This is the
2nd issue of I Want Online Now! Isn't it exciting?! I'm
already thinking of another newsletter to write. :)
I spent several days finding
errors on my
websites and fixing them, and wasn't that a blast.
Yuck! I also had to submit this newsletter to all of
the same directories as my other newsletter. I'm
getting ready to prune my online businesses and advertising
again. Every so often, I go through everything I'm doing and
decide what's wasting money and what I really want to devote
time and expense to. You'll
probably notice a theme to this week's issue. Something to do
with hard work. I think it's a subconscious reminder to myself
that I have a bunch of things I need to get done. In fact, I'm
getting close to that overwhelmed point. The reason is that
several of the things I need to get done are things I hate.
Taxes, for one. Filling out an employment application with all
of my previous employment. Starting a new job. Pay
bills. I was hoping writing them down would make them seem less
daunting. Not a chance! I
wonder how many of you already have your taxes done. |

This Week's
Lesson |
|
Getting Online -
1st Step, Part 2
In the last lesson, I told you what I
believe you need to get started online, an ISP, a webhost provider, a domain name, a website, and a product. I gave you a
couple of suggestions on where to get these. However, I never really explained what
they are.
Well, here goes. An ISP, or Internet Service Provider, is how you get connected to
the internet. I'm sure you've heard of AOL and MSN, and some of you know
Earthlink, Juno, or NetZero. Some of the phone companies are now ISPs, as well, like Verizon
and ATT, and so are some of the cable companies, like Comcast and
RoadRunner/ TimeWarner.
Anybody that will give you an account that allows you to access the internet and read
your email is an ISP. If you're going to do alot of work online, such as maintaining
a newsletter, answering lots of email, updating a website, and advertising your
product, website, or newsletter, if you can afford it, get either DSL or cable. These
are so much faster than dialup, it isn't even funny. Ask any website or newsletter
owner that is using dialup what they think.
A webhost provider is simply a company that has computers already connected to the
internet and is willing to rent you space on their computer for your website. Why
is that important? Well, because you don't want to have to learn to be a system
administrator and keep your computer running 24/7, make backups of your data, repair
the machine, and restore the data if it crashes. You don't want to have to run a
high speed line that hooks up to the closest internet connection so that your
customers can access your website. The cost and aggravation aren't worth it, unless
you're a big company! These webhost providers will 'host' your website and take
care of the details for you. All you have to do is load your website onto their
machines and maintain the site itself. Many webhost providers will also design and
maintain your website, but if you can afford to go that route, you don't need this
newsletter.
A domain name is that catchy name, like i-want-online-now.com :) or amazon.com that
defines your site. It's very, very important. There are many articles on the
internet about how to come up with a name and how much importance the search engines
attach to the domain name. Bottom line, you want your name to reflect what you're
selling, not your company name, unless your company name is very well known, like
WallMart or Dell. It shouldn't be too long or too difficult to write. The name
I-Want-Online-Now.com is a hard one to type and probably wasn't the best, but it is
certainly descriptive. The last suggestion I have is to try to get a .com name.
If the same name exists as both a .com and a .net, buy both of them and put the
website on one and point the other to it. Don't leave one of those available to a
competitor. When people are trying to remember the name of a website, they will
assume first that it is a .com site. They'll try .net next. Search engines do
evaluate the domain name when they are ranking you, although to what extent, I have
no idea.
If you're reading this newsletter, you already know what a website is. You don't
absolutely have to know html to get started, but you definitely should learn Front
Page and/or html as soon as you can. It's really not hard, unless you try to do
some of the more fancy things. Many of the affiliate and mlm programs give you a
replicated website with your own name and phone number on it. You won't stand out
from all of the other affiliates unless you build your own website that points to
your affiliate programs. There are lots of free or cheap website templates available,
so you don't have to start from scratch. Front Page comes with a few, but obviously,
everybody has those few templates. Go online and look up website templates.
Products can be information, ebooks, software, retail goods, or just about anything.
If you join an affiliate or mlm program, you'll be selling their products. Otherwise,
you'll either sell your own products or buy someone's products and resell them. You
need to decide exactly what you're going to be selling before you start building a
website, unless you decide to start with a newsletter and work from that end. In that
case, I would consider your newsletter to be your product.

You're Building What?
by Theresa Cahill

I've been giving a lot of thought lately to what works online and what
doesn't.
You must have noticed it, too. Tons and tons of people are willing to
jump on the bandwagon with dreams of getting rich - virtually
overnight.
And most of us are aware that this is hardly ever the case.
However, if you are into reading the ezines you receive, and looking
at the advertisements placed in those ezines, you must have also
noticed that there are plenty of true at-home business opportunities
available.
Some are health related, some are home products related, the rest run
a gamut of products and services.
And, if you've paid particular attention, you'll also see that these
same advertisers do not go away!
This has got to mean that these types of "at home"
businesses are working for these people because they are working it.
Sure some require a small initial investment, so why do some people bulk
at laying out $29 or $129 when they are more than willing to give $5
here, $20 there, $100 or more on that stupid off chance that they just
might make it into a decent position in a matrix, "fast
cycling" type
program?
If you are new to the net, take heed. If you've been around a while
and are still fooling with these my question is, "Why?"
How many times and how much money will it take for you (the royal you,
of course) to realize that time and effort is required on the internet
to make a go of it?
I invite you to drop over to http://www.thewizworld.com
and look around the website. Then read the current and back issues of
the Newsletter. These archived copies are filled with good sound
advice from people who ARE achieving their dreams online. They don't
try to pull the wool over your eyes - they'll tell you right up front
WORK is the answer. And they are willing to help you!
If you've got the money to throw away - on that off chance venture -
hey no one can stop you. But my experience, and inbox, are proof that
"the easy way" is nothing but a sure way to go broke.
Working the right program DOES return rewards. Again, the key is work.
If you are afraid of work, I'm thinking the odds are stacked against
you and my suggestion would be to put your money into the BANK.
If you aren't afraid to work, RESEARCH first, email those involved in
any particular at home business, establish a rapport with your
potential upline, sign up, and get to work!
Dreams are for dreamers - hard work is your key to success.
